Yahoo Movies G.I. Joe is getting a millennial-themed reboot
We always feared that the G.I. Joe franchise would get a Power Rangers-style makeover to appeal to millennials, but now it's actually here and we're a little bit terrified.
Four years after G.I. Joe: Retaliation hit cinemas, Hasbro and Paramount are officially at work on a movie that will rebrand the franchise for the age of swiping right, Instagram filters and artisanal bacon.
Hasbro Studios executive Simon Waters told the Los Angeles Times earlier this month that this reboot of our Real American Heroes is being designed with "a more millennial approach".
"The world has changed, and I think you're going to see G.I. Joe changing with it," Waters said in an interview just now going viral. "There's going to be a much more contemporary approach to the whole franchise, and that will allow us to develop different characters."
Hasbro's chief content officer Steve Davis added: "We hope to create a head snap. It's a different kind of Joe - one that still resonates with Joe fans but brings in an uninitiated audience and expands the audience internationally and domestically."

Hopefully this makeover will be more of in line with updating the action scenes to match today's groundbreaking blockbusters like The Raid or The Fast and the Furious, and less turning Sgt. Slaughter into Sgt. Tinder.
The current plan is to build a Marvel-style cinematic universe where G.I. Joe can interact with other Hasbro properties like Rom the Space Knight, Micronauts and M.A.S.K. There ha also been talk of a Transformers crossover down the line.
