Gary Oldman Doesn't Think Spotlight Deserved The Best Picture Oscar

Recent Oscar winner ‘Spotlight’ has proved to be one of the more divisive Best Picture award recipients of recent years - and one high profile Hollywood figure who wasn’t necessarily the biggest fan is Gary Oldman.

Speaking to Yahoo’s own Superfan, the 58-year old, London-born actor expressed doubt over whether the fact-based ensemble drama really deserved the top honour.

Oldman brought the film up as he expressed particular pride in his 2011 film ‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy,’ which he felt was overlooked at the Oscars that year.

“There’s a sort of pedigree that [’Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’] had, I’d like to think, worthy of such an honor. Where so many you see, you kind of go ‘really, they won an Oscar for that?’

“If you think of some of the movies that have been nominated over the years for Best Picture - ‘Gone With the Wind,’ ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ - and then you look at ‘Spotlight,’ and you kind of go, ‘Best Picture?’

“I enjoyed it but, you know, sometimes it gets a little … I just scratch my head in wonder.”

‘Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy’ earned Oldman his only Best Actor Oscar nomination to date (surprisingly), but he lost out to Jean Dujardin for ‘The Artist.’

It was also nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Score, but there too it came up empty handed.
