Glastonbury revellers enjoy a special screening of 'Yesterday' attended by film's star

Glastonbury film fans are in for a treat this morning. They are going to be among the first people in the UK to watch Danny Boyle’s new movie Yesterday – and they will be joined by the film’s star Himesh Patel for the screening.

Composer Daniel Pemberton, who contributed music to Yesterday, announced the news on his Twitter feed, calling it “possibly the ideal hangover buster”.

Helen O’Hara, editor at large for Empire magazine, then hinted at the attendance of Patel on the event that starts at 11am.

O’Hara is overseeing all the film events at the Pilton Palais, the festival’s cinema tent, with BBC radio presenter Andy Collins.

Yesterday is just one of the many films being shown over the long weekend. Avengers: Endgame, Rocketman and Jim Jarmusch’s latest zombie comedy The Dead Don’t Die are also on the impressive schedule, which also includes film and the arrival of special guests such as Liam Gallagher.

Visitors to the film tent are encouraged to dress up as their favourite characters from the films being shown as well as participating in proceedings.

Patel, who many will recognise from his time in EastEnders, has spent the last couple of weeks heavily promoting Danny Boyle’s new film, performing on a number of US chat shows including Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Yesterday tells the story of a musician who after a bicycle accident discovers he’s the only person in the world who still remembers The Beatles. He then becomes incredibly famous when he starts to play their songs.

The film is written by Richard Curtis and co-stars Lily James, Kate McKinnon and Ed Sheeran, playing himself.
