Horror movie The Strangers getting a sequel
Nine years on, a sequel is in the works for ‘The Strangers.’
The 2008 horror movie from writer-director Bryan Bertino starred Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman as a couple who come under attack by mysterious masked assailants. The film exemplified the ‘home invasion’ set-up which has been popular in low-budget horror in recent years, and proved highly profitable, grossing $82 million worldwide off a $9 million budget.
Berlin-based companies Bloom and The Fyzz Facility Pictures announced the sequel on Saturday, revealing that, while Bertino has again penned the script, he will not return as director. Instead, British filmmaker Johannes Roberts (‘The Other Side of the Door,’ the upcoming ’47 Meters Down’) will call the shots on the sequel.
The official synopsis tells us “‘The Strangers 2′ follows a family whose road trip takes a turn when they arrive at a secluded mobile home park and after the power goes out they decide to hunker down for the night in a borrowed trailer.
“Under the cover of darkness three familiar masked psychopaths pay them a visit to test their every limit.“
Producer Mark Lane praises ‘The Strangers’ for having “redefined the home invasion genre by perfectly combining character and terror in a way that we rarely see. This is a sequel that has been eagerly awaited and we are delighted to deliver it to the fans.”
Director Roberts adds, “Working with The Fyzz and Bloom to bring the brilliant set-up from the first movie to a new generation and deliver a powerful sequel is incredibly exciting.”
Reported casting is underway on the film, and it is scheduled to shoot in the US this summer.
