Hot Football Manager Gossip: Blanc to Man Utd, Moyes to Everton

David Moyes and the Manchester United manager’s job dominate today’s gossip pages. But before Red Devils fans have an angry meltdown and throw their smart devices at innocent passers-by, we should clarify that they do not appear in the same story.

Rather, the United hotseat is being linked with another Old Trafford old boy in the shape of Paris Saint-Germain boss Laurent Blanc (in fact not just in the shape of him - it actually is him). The Sun reports that the bespectacled Frenchman is a “shock late contender” to snatch the job from Jose Mourinho, who the last we heard was definitely 100 per cent going to get it, so someone somewhere is being very silly here; we just can’t be sure who.

One thing United’s board apparently like about Blanc is that he would make Ryan Giggs his assistant, whereas it is suspected that Mourinho would jettison the legendary club swordsman.

Meanwhile, Moyes is also being linked with a move to his former club. (Once again, could United fans please refrain from any tantrums or violence - this isn’t all about you.) And that club is Everton (See?).

The Sun reveals that the ginger tactician is “desperate” to return to Goodison Park, which sounds like a pretty accurate description given that only last week Moyesy appeared to be keen on taking charge at Aston Villa..

However, the tabloid suggests that the Merseyside club’s rich new board member Farhad Moshiri might want to bring in a “world name” (ouch!), while chairman Bill Kenwright apparently wants to keep hold of Roberto Martinez (wow).

Tottenham fans may be down in the dumps this morning following their home draw against West Brom, but they can console themselves with the news that they might sign a player with a funny name. Lyon defender Samuel Umtiti is being lined up for a summer move to White Hart Lane, according to the Standard, which claims that fellow Ligue 1 stars Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuayi are also keen on a move to north London despite interest from rival clubs.

Another player with a slightly funny name, the Cologne goalkeeper Timo Horn, has told Set Pieces he plans to discuss his future at the German club, which has apparently alerted the interest of Liverpool. The headline for that transfer would write itself.

Elsewhere, Man Utd are the latest club to be linked with a move for Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Bleacher Report) Chelsea outcast Radamel Falcao is set for a summer move to Roma (Mirror) and Blues youngster Dominic Solanke wants £50,000 a week to stay at Stamford Bridge despite only having played 17 minutes of first-team football for the club (Mail). It must have been Falcao that gave him that idea.
