Hugh Grant understands why people "hate" actors

Hugh Grant has accused people of 'hating' actors, but he totally appreciates why.

Currently enjoying something of a career renaissance, he's a busy man indeed, showing up as medieval conman Forge Fitzwilliam in this month's Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, and as Greg Simmonds in Guy Ritchie's spy comedy Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

While promoting the latter, the challenge of portraying actors on screen cropped up.

He told JOE: "I think people, audiences, like to see actors mocked, even gently as it is in this film. Because basically they hate us and I understand that."

Grant's Operation Fortune co-star Josh Hartnett also shared his thoughts on the matter; "For me, it was just kind of a heightened version of perspectives of actors, perceptions of actors, I guess.

"I mean, I haven't come across anyone quite as crazy as [his character] Danny but there are people out there who are near, near enough. It's fun to be able to lampoon yourself."

Funnily enough, it's only a month since we learned of a major tantrum from the About a Boy actor.

"I lost my temper with a woman in my eyeline on day one [of filming Dungeons & Dragons]," he revealed to Total Film.

"I assumed she was some executive from the studio who should have known better. Then it turns out that she's an extremely nice local woman who was the chaperone of the young girl. Terrible. A lot of grovelling...

"I did a 'Christian Bale,'" he joked, referring to an infamous incident from the set of Terminator: Salvation.
