Ian McKellen confirms Gandalf will be in new Lord of the Rings movie
Ian McKellen has revealed that Gandalf will appear in future The Lord of the Rings movies.
Following the main trilogy and The Hobbit prequels (all of which starred McKellen as the heroic yet cranky wizard), more films are going ahead. The anime War of the Rohirrim comes out later this year, and two live-action films – The Hunt for Gollum (working title) and a currently unnamed film – are also in the works.
In an interview with the Big Issue, McKellen said that Gandalf (or Mithrandir, if you want to get all Elvish about it) would feature in at least one of these upcoming films, but it's not certain yet if the legendary actor will be the one playing him.

"I've just been told there are going to be more films and Gandalf will be involved and they hope that I'll be playing him," McKellen explained.
"When? I don't know. What the script is? It's not written yet. So they better be quick!"
Last year, McKellen said that he had no plans to retire from acting and would continue to do it as long as his body would allow. There was a scare earlier this year when he fell on stage, and he was forced to drop out of the remainder of the shows.
Although he's making a good recovery, he admitted that he is still "feeling weak physically, which I’m doing exercises for", and he has decided to take the rest of the year off from work.
"Not because I need to, just because I want to," he insisted.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set to ride into cinemas on December 13.
