The film is set to be directed by Patricia Riggen, who helmed 'Girl In Progress' with Eva Mendes last year.
Producing is Mike Medavoy, the man behind films including 'Apocalypse Now, 'Black Swan' and 'The Thin Red Line', and who has worked closely with the freed miners and their families.
Shooting will begin in Chile in the autumn.
The Chilean mining accident happened in August 2010, when a section of the notorious San Jose copper and gold mine in the Atacama desert collapsed.
33 men were buried, for 69 days in total, but all were freed in a daring rescue which was broadcast around the world.
