Jai Courtney is one of just a handful of Suicide Squad stars who will return in James Gunn’s upcoming follow-up to David Ayer’s 2016 blockbuster.

So the Australian actor is perfectly placed to discuss the new dynamic in the hugely anticipated superhero adaptation.

ComingSoon.net recently discussed this topic with Courtney, who at first insisted that there wasn’t actually that much difference in his preparation for the film because not a lot had been established in the original blockbuster.

In fact, Courtney said that this wasn’t a “dramatically different Boomerang,” but instead it was the backdrop that was “a little different.” Especially since there are a lot more characters in Gunn’s version of The Suicide Squad.

Courtney added that Gunn’s take will have its “own feeling and flavour about it”, while predicting that those who loved the first film will have “just as much fun with it”.

The only other actors to appear in The Suicide Squad that will be returning are Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, and Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag.

This time around they will be joined by John Cena as Peacemaker, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, Peter Capaldi as The Thinker, Alice Braga as Sol Soria, Peter Davidson as Blackguard, and Taika Waititi in an unconfirmed role.

The huge ensemble is rounded out by David Dastmalchian, Michael Rooker, Nathan Fillion, Storm Reid, Steve Agee, Sean Gunn, Jennifer Holland and many more other stars.

We’ll finally get to see what Gunn delivers with The Suicide Squad when it is, hopefully, released on August 6, 2021.

This week it was also confirmed that Gunn will help to produce and craft a spin-off series that will focus on Cena’s Peacemaker, which will ultimately be released on HBO Max.
