James Cameron: The only way to experience 'Alita: Battle Angel' is in cinemas (exclusive)

20th Century Fox has unleashed a new Moments Worth Paying For trailer for Alita: Battle Angel, featuring producer James Cameron, ahead of the film’s launch on 6 February.

In it, the Avatar director touts Alita’s boundary-pushing visuals that show audiences “things they didn’t know were possible” as the reason to see it on the big screen. He says the “state of the art projection, cutting edge visual effects, and incredible sound” provided by cinemas make it “the only way” to experience a film of this scale.

Having watched the new Moments Worth Paying For trailer (above), we kinda have to agree. It was recently revealed that for 40 minutes of the film, including the beginning and end sequences, Alita: Battle Angel will feature up to 26% more picture on screen, only in IMAX.

After toying with the idea of directing Alita himself for years, Cameron enlisted Robert Rodriguez (Sin City/Predators) to direct this adaptation of the Japanese comic series, in order to focus on his 4 Avatar sequels.

Rosa Salazar plays the title role of a young woman who wakes up in a high-tech future that she doesn’t recognise, with a highly sophisticated cyborg body. Her physical shell possesses incredible fighting abilities that offer clues to Alita’s mysterious past.

Here’s the full synopsis: From visionary filmmakers James Cameron (AVATAR) and Robert Rodriguez (SIN CITY), comes ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, an epic adventure of hope and empowerment. When Alita (Rosa Salazar) awakens with no memory of who she is in a future world she does not recognise, she is taken in by Ido (Christoph Waltz), a compassionate doctor who realises that somewhere in this abandoned cyborg shell is the heart and soul of a young woman with an extraordinary past.

As Alita learns to navigate her new life and the treacherous streets of Iron City, Ido tries to shield her from her mysterious history while her street-smart new friend Hugo (Keean Johnson) offers instead to help trigger her memories. But it is only when the deadly and corrupt forces that run the city come after Alita that she discovers a clue to her past – she has unique fighting abilities that those in power will stop at nothing to control. If she can stay out of their grasp, she could be the key to saving her friends, her family and the world she’s grown to love.

ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL stars Rosa Salazar, Christoph Waltz, Jennifer Connelly, Mahershala Ali, Ed Skrein, Jackie Earle Haley and Keean Johnson. The flm is produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau, and directed by Robert Rodriguez
