James Gunn, the writer and director of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’, says Zoe Saldana “misspoke” when she told reporters at the film’s UK premiere that ‘Avengers 4’ was titled ‘Infinity Gauntlet’.
Yahoo Movies spoke to Gunn at the European press junket and we asked for his reaction to the title.
“It’s not the title,” Gunn tells us in the video above.
“My guess is that Zoe just misspoke. I’ll talk to Zoe today, but I would imagine that is just Zoe misspeaking and saying ‘Infinity Gauntlet’ instead of ‘Infinity War’.”
The actress who plays Gamora in Marvel’s sci-fi sequel told BBC’s Lizo Mzimba, “The Guardians just shot their part when it comes to ‘Infinity War’ – the first part – and we all have to go back for ‘Gauntlet’ later this year.”

Whether Gunn is just trying to cover for Saldana remains to be seen, but ‘Avengers: Gauntlet’ or ‘Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet’ does sound like a strange title for the follow-up to 2018’s ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ to us.
‘Gauntlet’ could be a codename for the fourth ‘Avengers’ film rather than its official name. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently told CinemaBlend the official title for ‘Avengers 4’ remains a secret as it could be a spoiler for the events of ‘Infinity War’, but what’s so spoilery about ‘Infinity Gauntlet’?
The Infinity Gauntlet is the glove used by Marvel’s big bad Thanos (played by Josh Bolin) to wield the power of the Infinity Stones, the Maguffins with magical powers that have been at the heart of the MCU to date. It’s no big secret that Thanos will be donning the Gauntlet at some point, which is why we think there’s something not quite right with Saldana’s slip of the tongue.
We’ll wait for an official announcement from Marvel before we’re convinced about the official title for the 2019 ‘Avengers’ movie.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ is in cinemas from 28 April.
