Watch: Behind the scenes of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad
The Suicide Squad director James Gunn has confirmed that the movie is completely finished, and that he was able to complete the job without studio interference.
Gunn has previously spoken of his love for the project and described it as the most fun he has ever had making a movie.
The 54-year-old filmmaker told a fan on Twitter that he “made every single choice” on the final cut of the movie and that Warner Bros “never once even slightly interfered”.
He added: “They gave very few notes — they were usually good and minor and I took them if I wanted to and didn't if I didn't want to. Warners was creatively amazing.”

Warner Bros has previously been criticised for exercising control over its superhero properties, most notably in the case of Justice League, when reshoots shepherded by Joss Whedon reportedly moved over from original director Zack Snyder’s vision.
After a fan campaign, Snyder was subsequently allowed to complete his cut and Zack Snyder’s Justice League will arrive on HBO Max in March.
David Ayer (Suicide Squad) and Cathy Yan (Birds of Prey) have also spoken of wishing they had more creative control while working with Warner Bros.
Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, meanwhile, denied headlines claiming she was “at war” with the studio during the making of Wonder Woman.
She had previously said the studio was “freaked out by all the female superhero films that had failed” before ultimately allowing her to make her own movie.
Gunn’s The Suicide Squad will see the titular crew of criminals — led by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, fresh from her solo exploits in Birds of Prey — sent to the South American island of Corto Maltese.
There, they visit a laboratory used for Nazi experiments and presumably encounter someone or something even more dastardly than they are.

The packed ensemble cast also includes John Cena, Idris Elba, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Jai Courtney, Alice Braga, Peter Davidson, Taika Waititi and Peter Capaldi.
Gunn took on the gig after his sacking by Marvel, but he was quickly rehired by the studio and will helm Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 as his next project.
The Suicide Squad is due to land in cinemas — and simultaneously on HBO Max in the USA — on 6 August.
