If there’s one man we can trust to save us from a prehistoric mega-shark, it’s surely Jason Statham. And if he’s going to undertake such a great man-of-action trial, he needs the proper attire.

Here we see the 49-year old British actor alongside co-star Li Bingbing in the first official photo from ‘Meg,’ in production now from Warner Bros.

And once again, Statham is rocking the turtleneck like few others can – a look he previously pulled off effortlessly in 2015’s ‘Spy.’

Based on the 1997 novel by Steve Alten, the ‘Meg’ of the title is a Megaladon, an ancestor of the great white shark – only considerably bigger, at around 75 feet and 100 tons.

Believed extinct, it transpires the species survived in a trench deep under the sea – but when it is unwittingly freed into the open water, it falls open Statham’s rescue diver Jonas Taylor to stop the beast.

Whilst the novel was set in US waters, the movie has moved the action to the coast of China, where production is taking place. Li Bingbing portrays Suyin, daughter of an esteemed Chinese oceanographer portrayed by Winston Chao, who teams up with Taylor in his battle with the Meg. (These characters were a Japanese billionaire industrialist and his daughter in the novel.)

The supporting cast includes Rainn Wilson, Ruby Rose, and Masi Oka. Jon Turteltaub directs (Eli Roth was initially attached), from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris.

‘Meg’ does not have a UK release date set yet, but is scheduled to hit US screens on 2 March 2018.
