Jennifer Lawrence Tops Best-Paid Actress List – Still $30m Behind Top Male

Jennifer Lawrence is officially the world’s highest-paid actress, according to the annual list published by Forbes magazine.

Before taxes, the ‘Hunger Games’ star scooped $52 million (£33.1 million) in the last year.

But while it is an indisputably impressive figure, it still comes in nearly $30 million less than this year’s highest-paid actor.

That accolade went to Robert Downey Jr, who made $80 million (£50.9 million) in the same period.

Such data will lend additional weight to the growing row over continued sexism in Hollywood, and the disparity between the wages of men and women in the entertainment industry.

Lawrence knocked Sandra Bullock off the top spot from last year, following the actress’s leading role in 'Gravity’.

Bullock dropped way down the rankings to 15th, having had a considerably quieter $8 million year.

In second place on this year’s list is Scarlett Johansson, who made $35.5 million, with Melissa McCarthy close behind with $23 million.

Meanwhile, Chinese actress Bingbing Fan has stormed into fourth place, her first time in the top 20, with a $21 million fortune accumulated in the past year, much of it thanks to deals with Chopard and L’Oreal as well as pay cheques for movies like ‘The White-Haired Witch of Lunar Kingdom’.

Thus far best known in Hollywood for her role in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, she’s the only non-American actress in the top 10.

In at number five is Jennifer Aniston, with $16.5 million, who only made two movies in the magazine’s scoring period – the low-grossing 'Cake’ and 'Horrible Bosses 2’ – but who still earns huge sums from endorsement deals.

Making up the rest of the top 10 are Julia Roberts ($16 million), Angelina Jolie ($15 million), Reese Witherspoon ($15 million), Anne Hathaway ($12 million) and Kristen Stewart ($12 million).
