JJ Abrams Confirms Millennium Falcon For Star Wars: Episode 7

The director has taken the “if you can’t beat them” approach to the recent ‘Star Wars 7’ leaks.

Following a series of high-profile leaks from the set of ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’, director JJ Abrams has taken the “If you can’t beat them” approach and leaked his own sneak peek of the set.

The director posted the humorous photo which appears to confirm the return of the Millennium Falcon on his production company’s official Twitter account. The pic comes from the film’s set which has just moved to Pinewood Studios, presumably to shoot interiors. It shows a handwritten note atop a very familiar prop.

The note reads: “I wish people would stop leaking photos from Episode VII and making ridiculous claims that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie. JJ.”

Eagle-eyed fans of the sci-fi franchise will recognize the prop as the hologame board that Chewbacca and C3PO played a memorable game of dejarik on in the original 1977 film. The photo, along with the note, confirms what most people already assumed: Han Solo’s parsec-bothering spaceship the Millennium Falcon will return for ‘Episode VII’.

There were two leaks from Abrams’ highly secretive set earlier this week, one showing a number of smiling extras posing for selfies on the film’s Abu Dhabi set, the other showing a life-size model of the Falcon in construction at a secret location.

Abrams and his production company Bad Robot run a notoriously tight, security-conscious ship. A letter purporting to be a new hire letter from his company leaked earlier this year contained the warning to potential leakers, “Not only will you cease to be employed here, but I will personally see to it that your reputation is destroyed, and that you will never work in this industry again.”

Lupita Nyong’o and Gwendoline Christie were announced as the latest members of the cast earlier this week, joining the original trio and a host of new stars on the highly-anticipated sequel.

The film continues to generate a huge amount of speculation and interest, so hopefully JJ will continue to drip feed info like this in order to keep the persistent set spies at bay.

‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ is coming to cinemas 18 December, 2015.
