Jon Polito Dead: Big Lebowski, Miller’s Crossing Actor Was 65
Jon Polito, a frequent collaborator with the Coen Brothers, has died at the age of 65.
Filmmaker John McNaughton took to Facebook on Friday morning to reveal that Polito had sadly passed, but failed to reveal under what circumstances.
Instantly recognisable, Polito was a ferocious on-screen presence. Able to unexpectedly but aggressively flip off the handle, the Philadelphia born actor will mostly be remembered for his roles in the Coen Brothers classics ‘The Hudsucker Proxy’, ‘The Man Who Wasn’t There’, ‘The Big Lebowski’, ‘Barton Fink’, and ‘Miller’s Crossing’.
It was in the latter that he had made his most memorable impression as Johnny Casper, the Italian gangster that goes up against his Irish counterpart and rival Leo O’Bannon, played by Albert Finney.
Outside of his work with the Coen Brothers, Jon Polito was a renowned character actor who amassed over 100 big-screen and television credits, appearing in the likes of ‘Modern Family’, ‘Big Eyes’, ‘Gangster Squad’, ‘It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’, ‘Seinfeld’, ‘The Green Mile’, ‘Stuart Little’, and ‘Homicide: Life On The Street’.
Jon Polito is survived by his wife Darryl Armbruster, who he married back in 2000.
