His latest may have only dropped in 2022 but it looks like comedian-turned-horror-master Jordan Peele is already busy prepping his next feature film.

Peele started his career in sketch comedy, eventually rising to prominence alongside his comedy partner Keegan-Michael Key with their popular skit-comedy series Key & Peele in 2012. Running for four series and a special, its sketches seamlessly skewed social weirdness, race issues and identity politics, blending them together with larger-than-life comedy setpieces.

After Key & Peele ended in 2015, the pair focused on independent work, with Peele throwing his hat into the ring as a feature film director via his socially-aware horror debut Get Out in 2017.

It was a huge hit with audiences and critics alike, earning three Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay and taking home the latter.

It was a move that all but cemented Peele’s status as a one-to-watch filmmaker and in the years since he’s continued to impress with films like Us in 2019 and his latest, Nope, in 2022.

Looking ahead, Peele is reportedly already hard at work on his fourth feature film - but what will it be about? Here’s everything we know about Peele’s new movie so far…

Peele's new movie was originally pegged for release on Christmas Day, 25 December 2024 before the recent Hollywood strikes delayed things.

As it stands, the movie is still currently without a solid release date although if the turnaround times of his previous projects are anything to go by, it looks like he doesn’t like to dawdle whenever he has a new idea that he’s passionate about.

With that in mind, we'll hopefully get to see what he's cooking up sooner rather than later.

In his relatively short career as a feature film director Peele has carved out a niche for taking traditional horror movie tropes and twisting them with something fresh, exciting and timely.

2017’s Get Out was a psychological thriller melded with the bubbling racial tensions that plague America and the wider world. With 2019’s Us, Peele tackled the classic terror theme of the doppelganger while pointing the finger at the disparity between classes and the rich and poor.

Meanwhile, with 2022’s Nope, he spliced an alien invasion feature with the nail-biting tension of Jaws, pulling the rug out from under viewers just when they thought they had a handle on the type of story he was telling.

When it comes to solid plot details, we still don’t really know anything significant about what Peele’s fourth film might entail. However, during a visit to Conan O’Brien’s podcast in early January 2024, he shared some exciting details before suggesting it could be his favourite story yet.

“This has been… obviously, it’s been an interesting year because the writer’s strike had had me in a state of listening, and that’s where I need to be,” he told O’Brien while discussing his next film.

“I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right.”

During the same chat, Peele also revealed that he had held a series of meetings with notable showbiz names like O’Brien and Paul Thomas Anderson where he invited participants to collaborate on hypothetical improvisational movie or TV projects, building story by using bespoke sets of playing cards that dictate narrative and plot points.

At the time of writing, it’s unclear whether this innovative storywriting process has impacted his new movie or if any of the ideas generated from these sessions will one day see the light of day.

Considering that we know nothing plot-wise, it’s still far too early to tell who might be starring in Peele’s latest film. While he’s not against recasting familiar faces (Daniel Kaluuya has appeared in both Get Out and Nope), we don’t know if any of his previous stars will return when it comes time to shoot his new movie.

Unfortunately, there’s no trailer or footage available for Peele’s latest just yet. At this stage, we’d settle for a title.
