Jude Law Reveals It Was The Outfit That Made Him Turn Down Superman

Jude Law has always been a dapper chap.

So it perhaps comes as no surprise that the super-suit was among the reasons why he decided to turn down the role of Supes in ‘Superman Returns’.

Speaking on 'The Late Show With Stephen Colbert’, he told how he binned off the opportunity back in 2004, 'when I was obviously young enough to play Superman’, because 'it didn’t float my boat’.

“I just felt like… It just didn’t seem to fit,” he said.

“And I was always worried about the outfit it and I… I just didn’t fancy it. And this director was very keen to meet and impress it upon me.”

He was even delivered the outfit specially by a guard and a woman from the movie’s wardrobe department to try on for size.

But rather than persuading him, as was likely the intention, it had quite the opposite effect instead.

“I go, 'I’m not gonna try it on in front of you. I’m gonna go in the bathroom,” he added.

“So I take the suit into the bathroom. Suddenly I’m putting it on and and then I look around and I’m in a mirror and suddenly, 'I’m Superman, right?’

Law said that he could even hear the theme music in his head, before coming to his senses.

“And then I had this picture of me in that costume, you know, in posters all around the world and I was like, 'No way’ and I unzipped it,” he revealed.

“I was Superman for two minutes. That’s enough.”

Instead, the role in Bryan Singer’s movie went to Brandon Routh, and has been largely glossed over in the DC movie canon.

So maybe he dodged that particular speeding bullet…
