Justin H Min explains why time travel felt "real" in new movie

The Greatest Hits star Justin H Min has explained why the film's idea of time travelling through music felt "very real" to him.

The Umbrella Academy actor stars in the romantic dramedy written and directed by The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby's Ned Benson. The movie follows Harriet (Lucy Boynton), a young woman who realises she can go back in time by listening to certain songs.

"I was drawn to it because I really do believe that music does time-travel us back to specific moments in our time," Min told Digital Spy in an exclusive chat.

"That's always felt very real and visceral to me, so when I saw the script where it's like, 'Oh this is actually something that is happening that reflects how I feel'. I was like, 'This is great, this is wonderful'."

But music wasn't the only element that sold the story to Min, as the star explained the film features a side to his own city, Los Angeles, that's rarely shown on the big screen.

"When I first read the script and I knew the places that we were going to shoot, I was like, 'This is really exciting', because I'm from LA and when we see LA in the movies, it's a lot of Hollywood, it's a lot of these very iconic spots," he said.

"I thought, 'Oh, it's nice to see more of east LA which is not somewhere you often see'.

"Civil Coffee which is where we had our first conversation. I've been there many times. It was really fun to feel like, 'Oh I'm actually shooting in my city'."

Premiered at SXSW last month, The Greatest Hits had a limited cinema run in the US from April 5 and will become available to stream on April 12.

The Greatest Hits is released on Disney+ in the UK and on Hulu in the US on April 12.
