Yahoo Movies Karen Gillan lands next lead movie role
Marvel star Karen Gillan has landed her next movie role, as the lead in a historical comedy. Gillan leads the cast of Fools, which tells the little known story of Mary Tudor and her friendship with her female court jester.
The cast also includes Olivier winner Patsy Ferran, Vera star Brenda Blethyn and Paddington's Jim Broadbent. The film will be written and directed by Outnumbered co-creator Guy Jenkin.
According to Variety, Fools is set in the 16th century in the aftermath of Henry VIII's death and follows England's first queen Mary as she "takes the throne in a divided country on the brink of chaos".

The synopsis continues: "While the ambitious Cardinal Pole (Broadbent) plots to secure control, he overlooks a humble court jester, Jane Foole (Ferran).
"The pious and apparently humourless queen finds Jane's brilliant slapstick routines uproariously funny, and they strike up a genuine friendship, the comedy lightening Mary's mood in the darkest of times, and helping fend off Pole's murderous manipulation. But can Jane's comedy save a nation from civil war?"
Speaking about the project, Jenkin said: "I am thrilled to be working with such a supremely talented core group of actors on Fools. Together, we will tell the untold story of the strange friendship between England's first Queen, and her female jester. Fools will turn the conventions of a historical film inside-out, and promises to be subversive, striking and very funny."

Back in October, Gillan and fellow Marvel star Chiwetel Ejiofor joined the cast of Tom Hiddleston's upcoming movie The Life of Chuck, alongside The Toxic Avenger's Jacob Tremblay.
The film is adapted from Stephen King's short story of the same name and features a cast led by Loki star Hiddleston and Star Wars' Mark Hamill.
Fools is yet to receive a release window.
