Kathryn Newton doesn't think 'anyone's ready' for new horror movie Abigail

Kathryn Newton doesn't think audiences are prepared for her upcoming horror movie Abigail.

The Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania actress stars alongside Alisha Weir, Dan Stevens, Melissa Barrera and the late Angus Cloud in the upcoming horror, in which a group of kidnappers are locked inside a mansion with a ballerina who turns out to be a vampire.

Teasing the film on Collider's Ladies Night podcast, Newton said, "I would say Abigail is the scariest movie, the most gory movie I've done... I don't think anyone's ready for this movie."

She admitted the cast also weren't prepared for the film they were making.

"None of us knew what we were doing on that set, like, none of us knew the movie we were really making," she shared. "I think it's a hilarious 'cause it's such a group of misfit people. None of us make sense - me and Dan Stevens?! What are we all hanging out for? And then we were just so close by the end of it. It's so funny, moviemaking is so weird like that."

In the trailer, fans can see a brief glimpse of the actress dancing - and she revealed on the podcast that she didn't expect that scene to become "a whole thing" in the film.

"I worked on a dance and I shot like a two-minute thing on my phone for them to pick hopefully take five seconds of (but) they turned it into a whole thing. It's a whole thing. It's like M3GAN on steroids," she said, referring to the viral dance scene from the 2023 horror M3GAN. "I don't think you're ready for it."

The 27-year-old is no stranger to the horror genre thanks to roles in Paranormal Activity 4 and Freaky and the comedy-horror Lisa Frankenstein.

Abigail, directed by Scream's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will be released on 19 April.
