Yahoo Movies The Love Island challenge that received another 1,500 Ofcom complaints
It's fair to say Love Island 2022 has had its fair share of controversies, from contestants' family members apologising for their behaviour in the villa to Islanders walking out. Now, TV regulator Ofcom has reported one of the recent challenges received over 1,500 complaints.
Earlier this season, Daily Mail reported the infamous 'Move Night', in which the Islanders discovered what happened during the Casa Amor part of the series, had over 2,000 complaints from viewers.
Their report suggested 2,481 viewers directly contacted the TV regulator with complaints "related to alleged bullying and misogynistic behaviour from some of the male contestants."
Now, a new report from Metro says Ofcom received a further 1,500 complaints over the Snog, Marry, Pie drama that ensued in the 19th July episode, which saw the contestants snog, 'propose to' or throw a pie in the face of the person of their choice.
They say the majority were "regarding the alleged misogynistic behaviour exhibited by the men" during the challenge. It's worth noting at the time of writing [28th July], these are registered complaints, as oppose to complaints under investigation by Ofcom.
Previously, a spokesperson for ITV told Cosmopolitan UK of the duty of care protocols they have in place, adding: "We cannot stress highly enough how seriously we treat the emotional well-being of all of our Islanders. Welfare is always our greatest concern, and we have dedicated welfare producers and psychological support on hand at all times, who monitor and regularly speak to all of the Islanders in private and off camera."
The spokesperson continued, "Ahead of this series, contributors on the show were offered video training and guidance covering inclusive language around disability, sexuality, race and ethnicity, behaviours and microaggressions. We are always looking at how we expand and evolve on this training to ensure that all of our Islanders feel they are part of a safe and inclusive environment."
