The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito lands next movie role

The Mandalorian's Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of Universal's mysterious monster movie.

Deadline reports the actor, who has also appeared in the likes of Breaking Bad and The Boys, has joined the as-yet-untitled monster thriller from production company Radio Silence.

The film will also star Scream's Melissa Barrera, The Guest star Dan Stevens, and Matilda: The Musical's Alisha Weir.

Other stars signed on for the project include The Strain's Kevin Durand, Freaky actor Kathryn Newton, Euphoria's Angus Cloud, and Will Catlett, best known for appearing in Love Is and The Devil You Know.

The film is set to be released on April 19, 2024, with plot details being kept tightly under wraps. What we do know is that Radio Silence's Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett will direct the project. The script for the film has been written by Stephen Shields.

This film joins an impressive list of monster films set to come from Universal, including the Ryan Gosling-fronted Wolfman, Elizabeth Banks' The Invisible Man spin-off The Invisible Woman, and a Dracula film from Chloé Zhao.

Esposito reprised his role as Moff Gideon in the third season of the popular Disney+ Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian earlier this year.

While fans may be eagerly anticipating a fourth season following the epic season three finale, they may be waiting longer than anticipated as it is expected new episodes will be delayed.

With the ongoing Writers' Guild of America strike, it seems that filming, which is due to begin in September, could be pushed back.

In the meantime, Esposito will appear in Francis Ford Coppola's latest project Megalopolis, also starring Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Dustin Hoffman, and Jon Voight.

Laurence Fishburne, Nathalie Emmanuel, Chloe Fineman, Bailey Ives, Jason Schwartzman, Kathryn Hunter, DB Sweeney, Talia Shire, James Remar, and Grace VanderWaal round out the impressive billing.

The film, which has begun filming in Atlanta, does not yet have a release date, though like the Radio Silence project, it is expected to hit the big screen in 2024.

Universal's untitled monster movie will be released on April 19, 2024.
