Marvel’s Black Panther: Michael B. Jordan Role WILL Be A Villain

Michael B. Jordan’s role in Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ movie has finally been cleared up, with details emerging at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.

While the ‘Creed’ star, as well as a number of other actors, have been confirmed for the Ryan Coogler-directed movie, Marvel hadn’t said who they’d be playing, so it was left for fans to speculate.

Now, during the weekend mayhem that is SDCC, we’ve finally learned Michael B. Jordan will play Erik Killmonger, a supervillain nemesis to Black Panther.

Birth name N'Jadaka, the character’s father was forced into helping Ulysses Klaw when invading Wakanda. When Klaw was finally defeated, his father perished and the family exiled by King T’Challa. Moving to New York, the genius insurgent vowed to avenge his father’s death. After being repatriated BY T’Challa, Killmonger took advantage of Black Panther’s constant absence (in the US) and staged a coup d'état, but didn’t succeed.

No doubt Erik Killmonger will be a formidable opponent for Black Panther, but as far as further plot details are concerned, Marvel are tight-lipped. They did, however, confirm the addition of ‘The Walking Dead’ actress Danai Gurira who will play Okoye, with Jupita Nyong’o as Nakia. Both will form part of the Dora Milaje, Wakanda’s all-female honour guard. Gurira’s Okoye is its leader.

With Chadwick Boseman already on board as the film’s title character - plus the fact he’s appeared in the MCU earlier this year in ‘Captain America: Civil War’ - the supporting roles are forming one of the most exciting and arguably strongest ensembles in the Disney/Marvel era.

‘Black Panther’ is in UK cinemas from 6 July, 2018.
