Marvel’s Inhumans Loses 2019 Release Date

Having already been delayed once, Marvel’s upcoming movie ‘Inhumans’ has been pushed back a second time - but this time, no new release date has yet been announced.

The Twitter feed of website Box Office brought the matter to public attention, simply noting, “Disney’s INHUMANS is now without a current release date.”

While this may be a worrying development for Marvel fans, it’s not entirely unexpected.

‘Inhumans’ had been penciled in to hit US screens on 12 July 2019 - but Marvel’s parent company Disney has subsequently scheduled the fifth ‘Indiana Jones’ movie for 19 July 2019. It was always unlikely the studio would want to release two major properties back to back.

This is the second time ‘Inhumans’ has lost its release date. When first announced in October 2014, the film was originally set for 2 November 2018, but Marvel’s subsequent announcement of July 2017′s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and July 2018′s ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp’ saw it moved to the following summer.

Given the comparative obscurity of the characters (a race of part-alien superbeings from a subterranean society, first introduced in the pages of ‘The Fantastic Four’), there have naturally been some concerns that ‘Inhumans’ might not wind up getting made at all.

Of course, we might recall that not too long ago ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Ant-Man’ were not especially well known outside of comic book fans either.

It’s also worth noting that Marvel’s TV series ‘Agents of SHIELD’ (which is canonical to the Marvel Cinematic Universe) has largely been devoted to building up the significance of the Inhuman race in the MCU.

An ‘Inhumans’ script has reportedly been written by Joe Robert Cole, and rumours have suggested that Adam McKay (who came close to helming ‘Ant-Man’) may be in line to direct, whilst Vin Diesel has long been linked to the role of Inhuman leader Black Bolt.

The MCU continues this year with ‘Captain America: Civil War,’ opening next week, and ‘Doctor Strange,’ opening November.

2017 will see Marvel release ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2,’ ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ and ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ whilst 2018 brings ‘Black Panther,’ ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1′ and ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp;’ finally, 2019 will deliver ‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 2′ and ‘Captain Marvel.’

And those are just the ones they’ve publicly confirmed…
