Matt Damon mocks Ben Affleck for losing Batman role to Robert Pattinson
Watch: Matt Damon mocks Ben Affleck over Batman role
Matt Damon used a social media video to take a swipe at buddy Ben Affleck over his replacement as Batman by Robert Pattinson.
The duo are taking part in a competition for charity fundraiser Omaze, in which they’re offering the chance for a competition winner to fly to Los Angeles and share a lunch with the two Hollywood A-listers.
In a video promoting the competition, which will raise money for Eastern Congo Initiative and Water.org, Damon repeatedly needled Affleck over Pattinson’s entrance into the DCEU.
When Affleck criticised Damon for his lack of energy, the Bourne star said the competition winner could join them to discuss “roles that we've played that maybe other people have played too, to winning effect”.
Affleck said they should plug the competition by saying “come see Jason Bourne, Batman...” to which Damon asked: “Robert Pattinson’s coming?”

When Affleck made an attempt to shoot back a quip about Jeremy Renner taking on the Bourne movies with The Bourne Legacy, Damon had a response.

“Jeremy Renner did not play Jason Bourne,” he said. “He expanded the Bourne Universe.”
Damon, who has been friends with Affleck since they were children, added: “Pattinson took your job.”

Pattinson is set to take over the role of Bruce Wayne from Affleck for The Batman, which is currently filming in the UK.
The movie’s release date was recently shunted back to 2022 after COVID-19 hampered the production schedule.
Affleck played Batman in 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and reprised the role for team-up movie Justice League the following year.
He is set to return for a role in the upcoming Flashpoint movie, with Michael Keaton’s take on the Caped Crusader also due to pop up in that secretive blockbuster.
Affleck’s Batman will also be seen again in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, which will debut as a four-part series in the US on streaming service HBO Max next year.

Snyder has confirmed that markets without HBO Max, such as the UK, will be able to see the project as well, though no specific plans have been revealed.
