May the 4th: the best Star Wars Day celebrations from social media
It’s the pun that became a worldwide phenomenon. Yes, May the 4th is now more or less officially classed as Star Wars Day – thanks to the date sounding a lot like the iconic ‘Star Wars’ line “may the force be with you” (just in case you needed that spelling out for you).
As has become customary, the day has seen social media awash with celebrations of all things ‘Star Wars.’ Here is but a small selection of some of the things which captured our attention today.
First, and easily the most unforgettable celebration of the day, was this video created for Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show, mashing up dialogue from the ‘Star Wars’ movies with the Smashmouth song ‘All Star’:
But this wasn’t the only musical tribute of the day. Check out this acoustic rendition of the Cantina Band music, with a dog on drums:

And here are just a few of the humourous images posted in honour of the day, kicking off with a cheeky one from Rey actress Daisy Ridley:

But of course, it couldn’t go unremarked that this is the first Star Wars Day in a world without Carrie Fisher. Many marked the occasion by paying tribute to the sadly lost Princess Leia actress:
