Michael Caine leads all-star trailer for new Hatton Garden heist movie King of Thieves
Michael Caine appears in sterling form for the first trailer for King of Thieves, the new movie telling the story of the 2015 Hatton Garden Heist, the biggest robbery in British criminal history.
Joined by an all-star cast, Caine plays the ring leader of the gang of ageing crooks uniting for a final job – to rob a safe deposit facility in London’s famous jewellery district.
Helmed by James Marsh, who directed Oscar-winning Stephen Hawking biopic The Theory of Everything, the movie is based on a Vanity Fair report on the heist by writer Mark Seal from 2016.
It finds Caine joined by a wealth of British acting talent, including Michael Gambon, Ray Winstone, Jim Broadbent, Tom Courtenay, Paul Whitehouse and Charlie Cox.
Though it’s not yet clear whether they will be playing their real-life equivalents or fictionalised versions of the men who committed the robbery.
It follows two other movies to have taken on the story, which have already been released – The Hatton Garden Job in 2017, starring Larry Lamb, Matthew Goode and Stephen Moyer, and the rather less successful Hatton Garden: The Heist in 2016.
The events are also set to be turned into a TV mini-series on ITV, starring Timothy Spall and Kenneth Cranham.
King of Thieves, meanwhile, is set for release on September 14.
