Christopher Plummer Says He 'Should've Ended Up With' Julie Andrews
Christopher Plummer has said that she should have got together with his ‘Sound of Music’ co-star Julie Andrews.
The movie veteran revealed his affection for Andrews during an interview with ABC News’ anchor Diane Sawyer, while talking about the film’s 50th anniversary.

“We should have ended up together,” he said.
Joking, he added: “We should have had a huge, smashing affair. But there was no time, and Julie had her children with her. Which was most inconvenient, I thought.”
Andrews was married to her first husband, the set and costume designer Tony Walton at the time the movie was being filmed, with whom she’d worked on ‘Mary Poppins’.
She later married the director Blake Edwards, who she stayed with until his death in 2010.
Asked by Sawyer if the lack of time and her children were the only thing stopping him, he said: “And geography. She was staying in a hotel way down the road.”
Sawyer then tells him Andrews claims they remained good friends because they weren’t an item, to which Plummer replies: “That’s probably true.”
She also asks Andrews whether she had a crush on Plummer at the time.
“We sort of did,” she says.
“We were never an item, as they say. But now we are the best of friends. And that’s lovely.”
Plummer was memorably disparaging of the movie at the time, and the consequent fandom that it spawned.
He famously used to call it ‘The Sound of Mucus’.
