With five Spider-Man films in existence and a sixth set for release next year, there aren’t many villains left to bring to the big screen.

There is one however, that easily tops the wishlist of fans: Carnage, and perhaps the unlikeliest actor on the planet hopes to one day play him.

Lin-Manuel Miranda is best known for his phenomenal Broadway show ‘Hamilton’ and his unwavering optimism on Twitter. He is now branching out with Disney films ‘Moana’ and ‘Mary Poppins Returns’, and he’s hopeful that relationship with the House of Mouse may see him join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

On a recent episode of Meet the Movie Press, host Simon Thompson described a discussion he had with Miranda. “He is a big fan of Marvel, and there is one particular character that he would actually like to play. It’s Carnage.

“He said if Disney and Marvel were looking at doing a ‘Maximum Carnage’ movie or bringing Carnage [into the MCU] as a character, he wants to be Carnage.”

‘Maximum Carnage’ is the comic story the character is best known for, and would be the most obvious source for any big screen story featuring him.

“Genuinely as a fan, he would love to play Carnage,” Thompson added. “That’s a goal of his.”

Carnage’s human identity is Cletus Kasady, a psychotic serial killer who becomes even more dangerous when he encounters the alien symbiote offspring of fellow Spidey villain Venom.

It’s not exactly the kind of role that’s easy to envisage for Manuel, but that could work to the idea’s advantage. He certainly wouldn’t be the first actor to surprise audiences with a sinister, villainous role.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. We know next year’s ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ is a new series Sony Pictures hopes will fare better than the Marc Webb/Andrew Garfield movies, thanks to its ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

That film will see Tom Holland’s Web-Head take on Michael Keaton’s Vulture and Shocker, two debuting villains. ‘Homecoming’ is set for release on 7 July 2017.
