'Old' star Alex Wolff says Nicolas Cage is not a cartoon character: 'He’s my single favourite person'

Actor Alex Wolff tells Yahoo he has developed a close bond with Hollywood icon Nicolas Cage while working with him on upcoming film Pig.

With Hereditary, Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle, and M Night Shyamalan's new film Old (in UK cinemas 23 July) under his belt, the 23-year-old describes working with Oscar-winner Cage as 'the single greatest experience of my life' calling him a 'lifelong friend'.

“He’s my single favourite person on the planet,” Wolff tells Yahoo about the 57-year-old star of Face/Off.

“He’s become a family member. My dad’s a jazz musician [Michael Wolff] and Nic has all my dad’s records and plays them all the time.

"We go out together and talk a few times a week, we’ve cried together, we’ve run the whole gamut.”

In Pig, Wolff plays truffle reseller Amir who buys the pricey fungus from the reclusive Rob (Cage). The indie film has been met with widespread critical acclaim with many calling it Cage's best performance in years.

“It’s important to remember that Nic not some cartoon character that people can impose their own movie star ideals on to,” Wolff explained.

“He's a really sensitive, deep person and above all he’s an artist and a beautiful actor. He’s not just some big personality.”

Directed by M Night Shyamalan, Old sees Wolff play one of a family relaxing on a deserted tropical beach which looks like paradise but where time is out of line with the rest of the world.

They all find themselves aging rapidly, with their lives reduced to just a single day. Wolff stars alongside Gael Garcia Bernal, Vicky Krieps, Thomasin McKenzie and Rufus Sewell in the psychological thriller.

Old is released in UK cinemas on 23 July, and Pig is in UK cinemas from 20 August.
