Oscars viewers were left baffled when the results of a fan poll deciding the "most cheer-worthy movie moment" of all time was won by Zack Snyder's Justice League.

The poll listed the top five moments that make fans cheer, including Jennifer Hudson's barn-storming performance in Dreamgirls and the "Avengers assemble" scene from Avengers: Endgame.

But when the number one entry was revealed, many were surprised to see that the most cheer-worthy movie moment ever is the scene in which the Flash enters the speed force.

Twitter users were quick to share memes about the bizarre result, which seemed to get little reaction from the assembled stars in the Dolby Theater.

Screenwriter J. Holtham said he "will never stop laughing" at the vote, and the awkwardness of the verdict being delivered in the midst of the Oscars ceremony.

He added: "Gonna get it tattooed on my hand so I can look at it whenever I need a laugh. Gonna have it carved on my tombstone to entertain people forever. Best. Thing. Ever."

The Flash moment won the poll ahead of Spider-Man: No Way Home, which secured second place for the scene in which three different Spider-Men fight together.

Marvel also won third place with the Avengers: Endgame moment, with fourth going to Dreamgirls and fifth awarded to the bullet dodge from The Matrix.

The cheer-worthy moment poll was one of two fan-voted accolades introduced for this year's Oscars, with the other awarding a movie as "fan favourite".

The other award was won by Snyder's zombie movie Army of the Dead, ahead of other popular films including Spider-Man: No Way Home and the Camila Cabello-starring take on Cinderella.

The Academy made numerous changes to the Oscars telecast this year, adding those fan votes and pre-recording the winners and acceptance speeches for eight categories.

The Oscars are currently being presented live from the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
