The 96th Academy Awards is the shining jewel in Hollywood’s movie calendar — and the big day is fast approaching, with the ceremony taking place on Sunday, 10 March.

The 2024 Oscars will no doubt be a hotbed of viral moments and movie discussion — and not just because of the new-release films they’ll be celebrating.

After 2022’s now-infamous evening which saw Will Smith attack comedian Chris Rock shortly before accepting the Best Actor Oscar, all eyes will no doubt be on the Academy to see just how the institution has changed in the wake of this disappointing and game-changing moment.

UK viewers can watch the action play out from the Oscars’ new home of ITV where the ceremony will be broadcast live from 11pm GMT (4pm Los Angeles time).

The full show will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1 and streamer ITVX, with Jonathan Ross fronting a live companion show starting at 10.30pm that promises to feature special celebrity guests and deliver the "ultimate Oscars party."

Meanwhile, ITV correspondent Ross King will be live in Los Angeles from 9.30pm speaking to guests as they arrive on the red carpet and delivering up-to-the-minute pre-show coverage, which is hosted by Lorraine Kelly.

Before their arrival on ITV, the Oscars could be found on Sky Cinema but this partnership came to an end after 20 years of live coverage of the evening’s action.

2024 will mark the first time that ITV has hosted the Academy Awards.

Nominations for the 2024 Oscars were unveiled on Tuesday, 23 January — and as usual, the shortlist wasted no time ruffling film fans' feathers.

Christopher Nolan's atomic bomb epic Oppenheimer led the way with 13 nods, followed closely by Emma Stone's Frankenstein tale Poor Things with 11 and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon with 10.

However, it was Barbie that once again grabbed headlines with the Academy failing to recognise its star Margot Robbie in Best Director or director Greta Gerwig in the Best Director category. That said, the film still walked away with eight nominations, including shout-outs in Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for co-star America Ferrera and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling’s Ken.

Bradley Cooper's Maestro received seven nods, with harrowing drama The Zone of Interest, courtroom tale Anatomy of a Fall and Alexander Payne's The Holdovers each receiving five nominations.
