Tom Cruise can be seen clinging to the roof of a moving train in a dramatic new photo from the upcoming Mission: Impossible sequels.

Director Christopher McQuarrie shared a photo of the daredevil actor's latest stunt on his Instagram, thanking the people of Yorkshire for their hospitality.

Cruise is currently shooting Mission: Impossible 7 & 8 back-to-back, and had been photographed filming action scenes on top of a moving mock steam locomotive in the North York Moors in recent days.

Teasing a return to the location in the near future, McQuarrie — who also directed 2015's Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation and 2018's Mission: Impossible - Fallout — captioned the snap with his "sincerest thanks to North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the Office for Road and Rail, Eddie Draper, Riley’s & GB Rail Freight and, of course, the incredibly lovely and welcoming people of Levisham."

Hundreds of crew were seen setting up for filming in the village of Levisham on the North York Moors near Pickering, which appeared to involve the use of a modified train and tracks.

Cruise, whose screen credits include the Top Gun and Jack Reacher films, was seen clambering on top of a carriage while apparently filming a stunt. The production has also filmed a train-set action sequence in Norway, with both locations potentially playing part in the same scene.

A dramatic set-up of a train track at a quarry in Derbyshire is also reportedly a location for the film.

Production of Mission: Impossible 7, from Paramount Pictures, has suffered a number of delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Filming was scheduled to begin in Italy in February 2020 but production was halted as coronavirus cases rose in the country.

After a delay, filming restarted at locations including Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in Hertfordshire.

Earlier this month, the film’s release was delayed from November until May 2022 as coronavirus continued to disrupt international schedules, with Mission: Impossible 8, also co-starring Hayley Atwell, slated for release in 2023.

McQuarrie previously revealed that the sequels are two halves on one story.

“The reason there are two is quite simply when we went into making Fallout I said to Tom, ‘I really want to make this more of an emotional journey for Ethan.’ Knowing full well that that would be a longer movie because the action just consumes an obligatory amount of real estate,” McQuarrie told the Light The Fuse podcast.

“You’re only left then with so much room for story. So, I knew Fallout would run longer. Going into this, I said, ‘I want to take what we learned from Fallout and apply it to every character in the movie’ … I want everybody to have an emotional arc; I just want the movie to have more feeling across the board.”
