Netflix has released a new trailer for Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead live-action movie.

The beloved manga, which is currently being explored in an anime series, has been adapted by the streamer into a cinematic epic that follows the same narrative.

The trailer sees Akira Tendou slogging through his 9 to 5 existence in a toxic work environment, before he’s liberated from this mundane life as a zombie apocalypse breaks out overnight.

Akira might be the only person who is thrilled by the sudden deadly chaos as he cheers: "I don’t have to go to work anymore – hell yeah!"

The relatable themes of escaping everyday life to find a higher purpose ground the madness around Akira, as he embarks on a journey of self-discovery when the woman he loves gets bitten and he can't have the life he dreamed of.

In response, Akira writes a bucket list of things he wants to do before his life is over or he succumbs and becomes a zombie too. After ticking through the list, he's told: "It might just be people like you that can save this pandemic."

Instead of living freely around the zombies, he adds to his growing list, "Become a superhero and save everyone", shifting his purpose as he no longer wants to live in isolation but instead engage with the real-world threat including the zombie sharks.

The action-packed movie promises the best of zombie flicks with horror, gore, heartache, and poignant moments of learning to live and find human connection when the world as we know it disintegrates.

Zom 100: Bucket List stars Eiji Akaso in the titular role, supported by Mai Shiraishi as Shizuka, and Shuntaro Yanagi as Kencho.

Zom 100: Bucket List will land on Netflix on August 3.
