New Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 trailer brings action, laughs and Baby Groot

We’ve already had one brief teaser trailer for Marvel’s hotly anticipated ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2’ – now we have a somewhat meatier look at what James Gunn’s sequel has in store.

Marvel just officially released the new trailer, which you can watch above, not that fans of the original will need any encouragement.

This longer trailer gives us a far better look at what we can safely assume to be major set-pieces, notably the Guardians doing battle with some sort of giant, tentacle-faced space monster.

It also reveals one track we can expect from Star-Lord’s new mix tape: ‘Fox on the Run’ by glam rockers Sweet. (More 70s music, who’d have guessed it?)

However, it’s still quite the teaser, inasmuch as it reveals virtually nothing of the film’s overall plot – something which James Gunn has already stressed he is anxious for the film’s marketing to avoid.

Nor do we see much of any new characters in the sequel, beyond a brief introduction in the final moments to the empathic alien Mantis, portrayed by Pom Klementieff.

Other ‘Guardians’ newbies – such as Kurt Russell as Star-Lord’s father Ego and Sylvester Stallone in an as-yet undisclosed role – remain unrevealed.

On top of which, we’re given no indication of how Karen Gillan’s Nebula and Michael Rooker’s Yondu come into play, although it is known they will both fight alongside the Guardians in the film.

Happily, what we do get is a lot more of the wonderful comedic interplay between the characters which played such a vital role in making 2014’s original ‘Guardians’ such a hit with both Marvel aficionados and the uninitiated alike.

And of course, who can fail to be reduced to squees and giggles at the sight of Baby Groot attempting to get his underdeveloped brain around Rocket Raccoon’s instructions?

Roll on 28 April 2017, when ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’ opens in UK cinemas.
