New Keanu Reeves Movie Makes Just £88

It’s been a tough opening weekend for Keanu Reeves…

According to official UK box office statistics via BFI, ‘The Matrix’ star’s latest movie ‘Exposed’ racked up a paltry £88 at the box office in its opening weekend.

And that makes it the biggest bomb of Keanu’s career.

Appearing in cinemas since 26 February, ‘Exposed’ stars Keanu Reeves as Detective Scott Galban – a police detective investing his partner’s death, while a young Latina woman (who is played by Ana de Armas) experiences strange things after witnessing a miracle.

And it sounds as though the film has been plagued with problems.

The original story of ‘Exposed’ was more of a surreal bi-lingual drama, reminiscent of ‘Pan’s Labyrinth’ and ‘Irreversible’. But Lionsgate Studios thought they had bought a Keanu Reeves cop-thriller… and made adjustments to the movie to make it far more mainstream.

During the editing process, Lionsgate shifted the focus onto Keanu’s detective… resulting in a more generic crime-thriller than was originally intended.

And the film’s dual release in cinemas as well as video-on-demand couldn’t have helped.

But was the film’s box office failure a cinematic misfire or a lack of marketing?

Either way, it was Keanu Reeves’s worse performing film of all time… and when you compare it to some of his highest-grossing movies, they really couldn’t be further apart.

Here’s a list of his top five grossing films:

The Matrix Reloaded: $742 million
The Matrix: $463 million
The Matrix Revolutions: $427 million
Speed: $350 million
Something’s Gotta Give: $266 million

Still, at least there’s one consolation – ‘Exposed’ wasn’t the biggest flop on that weekend. ‘The Benefactor’ starring Richard Gere managed to rake in a pathetic £25, despite a rather heavyweight cast featuring Theo James, Dakota Fanning and Clarke Peters.

Let’s just hope ‘John Wick 2’ does a little better.
