It’s no secret that Rita Repulsa is back. And this new image of the iconic ‘Power Rangers’ villain shows that she’s ready to wage war with our entire planet. But could she be hiding a more subtle secret?

It seems her staff may give us some clues about the movie…

“After eons locked away… I’m FREE!” says Repulsa after taking over the Power Rangers Twitter account. “I have plans for your pitiful planet. Stay tuned. #RepulsaTakesOver”

Of course, accompanying the tweet is another picture of Rita Repulsa in her new getup. Elizabeth Banks sure looks great as the iconic ‘Power Rangers’ villain… but perhaps more importantly, a good look at her staff may be teasing the return of the Green Ranger.

There’s already been plenty of speculation that Rita Repulsa has some sort of connection to the Green Ranger – despite the fact that the Green Ranger hasn’t appeared in any of the film’s promo materials thus far.

Sure, it’s probably because of her striking green costume.

But now it seems there may be some truth behind it.

A closer look at Rita’s mysterious staff reveals a glowing green object at its centre. Not unusual for a powerful staff, but it bears a striking resemblance to the Power Coins – small, glowing coins which are the source of each ranger’s abilities.

Of course, the Power Coins glow with the colour of their corresponding ranger… and with a green glow and notable similarity to those coins, it could be possible that Rita Repulsa gives the Green Ranger his power.

If indeed he appears in the movie at all.

Obviously, he’s yet to be confirmed… and this could all be in place as a mere Easter Egg, or a hint to a future movie which will introduce the Green Ranger proper.

But for now, we’ll have to wait and see.

‘Power Rangers’ heads to cinemas on 24 March 2017.
