Noomi Rapace Set To Play Amy Winehouse In New Biopic
‘Prometheus’ star Noomi Rapace is in talks to play Amy Winehouse is a forthcoming biopic of the late soul and jazz singer.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Irish filmmaker Kristen Sheridan will write and direct the project, telling the story of the tragic star.
Talks are underway with Winehouse’s dad Mitch to obtain rights to use her music in the movie.
This might prove easier said than done, however, after Mitch condemned the last big screen take on her life, Asif Kapadia’s documentary 'Amy’.
The film was critical of some of the people she surrounded herself with during her life, which ended tragically at the age of 27.
Winehouse came to prominence following her debut album 'Frank’ in 2003, but went stratospheric on the release of 'Back To Black’ in 2006.
The album won her five Grammys, as well as a host of Ivor Novello and MTV awards, and huge fame in the US.
But her life was dogged by her issues with substance abuse, and a destructive relationship with her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, as well as being hounded by the paparazzi.
But just when she appeared to be working out her problems, she was found dead at her home in Camden on July 23, 2011.
An inquest ruled that she died of accidental alcohol poisoning, after fatal levels of alcohol were found in her bloodstream.
