One Direction Fanfic Gets Fifty Shades Treatment?

Rumour has it that a lucky One Direction fan could be set to follow in the footsteps of Twilight fanfic author, 'Fifty Shades of Grey' scribe E.L James.

Anna Todd’s fan fiction tale ‘After’, which centres around the boy band’s heartthrob Harry Styles, is reportedly being considered for a film adaptation according to Deadline.

The storyline follows “A happy, optimistic young girl falls in love with a guy with a dark side that is addictive, and their relationship is a rollercoaster ride.”

Todd’s Wattpad novel has been read by more than 500 Million One Direction fans, which explains why Hollywood talent and literary agency UTA have agreed to represent the screen rights for the series.

Fans are already in a spin about the news, have been speculating over which Hollywood star might take on the lead role, though according to reports the movie version of After won’t be able to use Harry Styles’ name - or the names of any other members of One Direction, for that matter.

Responding to some negative comments about the news, Todd released a statement saying: “Fanfictions are turned into books/movies all the time so I hope those of you who dislike After or me, will just take a step back and look at this as an opportunity for yourself and with all the amazing things happening with Wattpad you could be the one having a movie next!

“So try to remember that Wattpad is an amazing and positive community, that being said I won’t engage in any fights so please leave your hateful comments on your own page.”

One Direction have already hit the big screen, of course, in their 2013 documentary movie 'This is Us'.
