One Direction film tops most-buzzed movies of 2013 list

Directioners help the boy band’s 3D film become the most talked about movie of the year on social networks.

'One Direction: This Is Us’ was the most buzzed-about film of 2013 on social networks according to a new report from digital marketing firm Way To Blue.
 
The report, which tracks social media mentions of films, says the concert movie directed by Morgan Spurlock generated over 159,548 mentions across Twitter, Facebook, and blogs.

'Fast and Furious 6’ came in at second place generating 109,007 mentions, with ‘Les Miserables’ taking third spot with 98,403 mentions.
 
2013 was the year of established franchises according to the data, which lists ‘Les Miserables’, ‘One Direction: This Is Us’ and ‘The Great Gatsby’ as the only non-franchise films to make the top 10.
 
The report also tracks social media mentions with ‘Intent To View’ (i.e. Posts which suggest the user intends to go see the film at the cinema), with Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-nominated ‘Lincoln’ the film with the most social posts showing ‘Intent To View’.

The premiere of ‘One Direction: This Is Us’ (which we live streamed on Yahoo Movies) also generated the highest “Buzz Peak” of the year on August 20, followed by the film’s release nine days later.
 
Paul Walker’s untimely death in a car accident on December 1st was the third most-posted movie story of the year.
