Oscar Isaac to play Solid Snake in 'Metal Gear Solid' movie

Oscar Isaac has reportedly been cast to play Solid Snake in Sony’s upcoming adaptation of the beloved video game Metal Gear Solid.

Deadline were the first to report that Isaac will be directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts in the film, with the filmmaker seemingly confirming the news on Twitter on Friday. The film has been written by Derek Connolly.

The first Metal Gear video game was released all the way back in 1987, while Metal Gear Solid launched on the Playstation in 1998. It revolved around Snake, a soldier that had to break into a nuclear weapons facility in order to stop a terrorist attack.

56 million copies of Metal Gear Solid and its sequels are believed to have been sold across the world, while the franchise has been widely praised for bringing a cinematic quality to video games, especially when it comes to its themes, humour, and storylines.

41-year-old Isaac has become one of the most popular actors in Hollywood over the last few years, thanks to his performances in Inside Llewyn Davis, A Most Violent Year, X-Men: Apocalypse, and the Star Wars sequel trilogy.

Vogt-Roberts has also had tremendous success, too, ever since his debut feature film The Kings Of Summer premiered at Sundance back in 2013. He followed that up with 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, while he has actually been linked to the Metal Gear adaptation since 2014.

As has Connolly, who since writing and producing 2012’s Safety Not Guaranteed, has also written Monster Trucks, Kong: Skull Island, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, and Pokemon Detective Pikachu, while also contributing the stories to Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker and Jurassic World: Dominion, too.

Isaac can next be seen in Dune, which is now scheduled to be released on October 1, 2021.
