How to watch the Oscars 2024 in the UK
Hollywood’s biggest night returns, hopefully with fewer slaps this time
The 96th Academy Awards is the shining jewel in Hollywood’s movie calendar — and the big day is fast approaching, with the ceremony taking place on Sunday, 10 March. The 2024 Oscars will no doubt be a hotbed of viral moments and movie discussion — and not just because of the new-release films they’ll be celebrating.
After 2022’s now-infamous evening which saw Will Smith attack comedian Chris Rock shortly before accepting the Best Actor Oscar, all eyes will no doubt be on the Academy to see just how the institution has changed in the wake of this disappointing and game-changing moment.

When will the 2024 Oscars take place?
The 2024 Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, 10 March at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
For the past three years, Oscar night has taken place in March instead of February when they were typically held. This year continues that trend, something that has reportedly given way to higher viewing numbers on the night.
How can I watch the 2024 Oscars in the UK?
UK viewers can watch the action play out from the Oscars’ new home of ITV where the ceremony will be broadcast live from 11pm GMT (4pm Los Angeles time).
The full show will be broadcast exclusively on ITV1 and streamer ITVX, with Jonathan Ross fronting a live companion show starting at 10.30pm that promises to feature special celebrity guests and deliver the “ultimate Oscars party.”
Meanwhile, ITV correspondent Ross King will be live in Los Angeles from 9.30pm speaking to guests as they arrive on the red carpet and delivering up-to-the-minute pre-show coverage, which is hosted by Lorraine Kelly.
Before their arrival on ITV, the Oscars could be found on Sky Cinema but this partnership came to an end after 20 years of live coverage of the evening’s action. 2024 will mark the first time that ITV has hosted the Academy Awards.
Who will host the 2024 Oscars?
American late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will host the Oscars for the fourth time in 2024 after fronting the event in 2017, 2018, and 2023. Other notable names to have hosted the awards include Chris Rock, David Letterman, Steve Martin, Jon Stewart and Billy Crystal, the latter of whom is widely regarded as one of the best to ever do it.
Who is nominated at the 2024 Oscars?
Nominations for the 2024 Oscars were unveiled on Tuesday, 23 January — and as usual, the shortlist wasted no time ruffling film fans’ feathers. Christopher Nolan’s atomic bomb epic Oppenheimer led the way with 13 nods, followed closely by Emma Stone’s Frankenstein tale Poor Things with 11 and Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon with 10.
However, it was Barbie that once again grabbed headlines with the Academy failing to recognise its star Margot Robbie in Best Director or director Greta Gerwig in the Best Director category. That said, the film still walked away with eight nominations, including shout-outs in Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for co-star America Ferrera and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan Gosling’s Ken.
Bradley Cooper’s Maestro received seven nods, with harrowing drama The Zone of Interest, courtroom tale Anatomy of a Fall and Alexander Payne’s The Holdovers each receiving five nominations. Explore the full list of 2024’s Oscar nominees here.
Who will perform at the 2024 Oscars?
The 2024 Oscars will feature live performances from each of this year’s Best Original Song nominees.
This means we can expect to hear live renditions of Jon Batiste’s It Never Went Away from the documentary American Symphony and Becky G’s The Fire from Eva Longoria’s feature Flamin’ Hot.
The Osage Singers will join Scott George to perform Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People) from Killers of the Flower Moon and Barbie will perform two of its tracks, with Billie Eilish joining her brother Finneas O’Connell to sing What Was I Made For? and Ryan Gosling summoning up all of his Kenergy for a performance of I’m Just Ken with Mark Ronson.
Who will be presenting at the 2024 Oscars?
