"At the time, I was just working with this bloke John," says Paul McCartney in the UK trailer for upcoming rock doc series McCartney 3,2,1.

"Now I look back and I was working with John Lennon!" he adds with a smile.

McCartney is talking to Rick Rubin, legendary music producer and co-founder of Def Jam, in the six-part series which launches on Disney+ as a Star Original on 25 August.

The black and white trailer — watch it below — is packed with charming snippets of anecdotes as the iconic songwriter looks back on his music career from The Beatles and Wings, right up to the present day.

Talking about being in the Fab Four, McCartney says he ended up playing the bass in the band by default because John Lennon and George Harrison both said "well, I'm not doing it".

Another moment sees Rubin reading a quote that lavishes praise on McCartney which he reveals was written by John Lennon, which moves Macca to respond, "I hadn't heard that, that's beautiful."

The six-part series has already aired on Hulu in North America where it has been lavished with critical praise, with Indiewire calling it "a fascinating blend of reminiscing and celebration."

The series will be joined on Disney+ by Peter Jackson's long-awaited Beatles documentary The Beatles: Get Back in November.

McCartney 3,2,1 will premiere exclusively on Disney+ as a Star Original from Wednesday 25 August, in the UK & Ireland.
