First trailer for 'Train to Busan' sequel 'Peninsula' showcases zombie chaos
The first trailer for Peninsula — director Yeon Sang-ho’s follow-up to Train to Busan — has landed online in an explosion of rotting zombie flesh.
Set four years after the 2016 hit, director Yeon has already said that his movie has a “wider scope” than the confined setting of the first film.

That’s certainly evidenced by the trailer, which features streets packed with rampaging zombies and even an underground fight club, pitting uninfected humans against marauding beasts.
The story follows a soldier (Gang Dong-won) who is assigned to a covert operation within the quarantined zone he had previously run from, returning to the trauma he thought he had escaped.
Train to Busan grossed $93m (£80m) at the worldwide box office and was lauded by Shaun of the Dead filmmaker Edgar Wright as the “best zombie movie in forever”.

Director Yeon was initially resistant to the idea of a sequel, but was lured in by the idea of crafting a “post-apocalyptic world” with real scale.
He told Screen: “There could be many stories that could keep coming out of that world. Destroyed, isolated, extreme, but with hope of escape and humanism, and the way world powers would look at this place.
“There could be a lot of material with a lot of greater significance.”
Director Yeon also wrote and directed the animated zombie film Seoul Station, which serves as a prequel to the story told in Train to Busan.

In the years since Busan became a success, he also made South Korea’s first superhero movie with Psychokinesis.
That film told the story of a security guard who gains telekinetic powers after drinking from a mountain spring affected by a meteor strike.
Peninsula is expected to be released later this year.
