It’s no secret that the upcoming ‘Power Rangers’ movie offers a fresh take on those Mighty Morphin Power Rangers… as well as iconic villain, Rita Repulsa. But now it looks as though they’ll be battling a classic henchman – none other than Goldar.

And he looks a bit different.

Appearing in a commercial for the new Megazord toy released by Saban, the classic ‘Power Rangers’ villain appears in all his newfound glory. But let’s just say, he looks a bit… weird.

The original version depicted Goldar as a gargoyle-like creature, adorned with gold armour. Here’s the new look:

As you can see, it’s more of a generic, no-faced henchman look… which is pretty disappointing considering the hugely positive reactions to the new Power Rangers suits as well as Elizabeth Banks’ awesome look as Rita Repulsa.

But this is just the latest reimagining that has sent fans crazy.

Original ‘Power Rangers’ character Alpha 5 will be starring in the movie… but gone are those cheesy sci-fi robot looks. Instead, the Rangers’ dutiful helper looks far more alien and organic in concept art release via IGN. Alongside the new Goldar, it looks as though ‘Power Rangers’ is going to be doing things a bit differently this time around.

But will fans warm to the new Goldar?

At the moment, we have to wait and see. But there doesn’t seem to be an awful lot to warm to. It’s just another generic baddie, where ‘Power Rangers’ could have riffed on the rather more unique look of the classic henchman.

‘Power Rangers’ heads to cinemas on 24 March 2017.
