Rambo: New Blood TV Series In The Works

It looks as though Rambo will be getting his own TV show…

According to Deadline, Fox TV is developing a new ‘Rambo’ television show… and it might even star Sylvester Stallone in the title role.

“After lengthy negotiations, Fox has closed a development deal for Rambo: New Blood,” they reveal. And it’s said to be “a TV series based on the hit feature franchise, with Sylvester Stallone executive producing.”

‘Rambo’ fans have been waiting for the fifth movie for a long time, with numerous projects reportedly coming and going. There was ‘Rambo: Savage Hunt’ which would have seen the titular soldier taking on a genetically engineered menace… and then there was ‘Rambo: Last Stand’ which put Stallone’s hero taking on Mexican drug cartels.

In fact, Sylvester Stallone even confirmed the project was in the works… and that the newly titled ‘Rambo: Last Blood’ would be filmed after ‘Creed’.

But those movies might have to wait.

‘Rambo 5’ might not be dead yet, but it will have to compete with ‘Rambo: New Blood’.

“I hear conflicting information whether Stallone has a deal in place to act in the project, about Rambo and his son,” they explain. “Though he certainly has the option to do so.”

“Some sources indicate that the actor would reprise his role as the famous renegade soldier, which he has played in all four Rambo movies to date, while others say that he won’t appear in the series.”

‘Rambo: New Blood’ is said to pay homage to the original film series, while exploring the relationship between Rambo and his son, J.R. who might have something in common with his dad – he’s an ex-Navy SEAL.

Given that the series is set to explore that relationship, I’d say that Stallone is likely to be high on the list of stars to appear on the show… and it won’t be a short cameo, either. From the brief synopsis, it sounds as though Rambo will feature heavily in the series, unlike other TV spin-offs which pay lip-service to the original characters.

‘Rambo: New Blood’ will be produced by eOne in partnership with Millennium Films, with Jeb Stuart, Stallone and Lerner executive producing while Stuart also handles writing duties.
