Red Nose Day Love Actually sequel trailer revives the famous cue cards

A teaser for Red Nose Day’s ‘sequel’ to ‘Love Actually’ has landed, and it’s revived Andrew Lincoln’s famous cue cards.

As you will recall from Richard Curtis’s classic rom-com, his character Mark (in what would these days be considered a mildly stalky manner) appears outside Keira Knightley’s character Juliet’s house to profess his love for her.

It doesn’t work for Mark, sadly, but it works here, as the sequel’s stars like Hugh Grant, Liam Neeson, Rowan Atkinson, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Bill Nighy and Martine McCutcheon all line up to discuss, in cue card format, who has aged best since 2003.

Unfortunately, the answer is obviously Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Olivia Olsen, the former child stars who played Sam and Joanna, who are also reprising their roles.

The 10-minute short has been made for Comic Relief and will be broadcast tomorrow night (March 24) on Red Nose Day.

It picks up the characters 14 years on (Hugh Grant is still prime minister, it seems), with Richard Curtis adding to ‘Good Morning Britain’: “Someone’s died, someone’s got lots of kids, someone’s been voted out of office and voted back into office.”

He added: “Over the years, I’ve enjoyed doing Red Nose Day specials of TV things I’ve worked on – Blackadder, The Vicar of Dibley and Mr Bean.

“It seemed like a fun idea this year to do a special sketch based one of my films, since Red Nose Day is now in both the UK and America.

“I would never have dreamt of writing a sequel to Love Actually, but I thought it might be fun to do 10 minutes to see what everyone is now up to.

“Who has aged best? – I guess that’s the big question… or is it so obviously Liam?”
