It looks as though ‘Pacific Rim 2’ is getting the band back together.

Despite rumours that the upcoming ‘Pacific Rim’ sequel would feature an all-new cast, it looks as though certain characters from the original movie will be back… and that includes Rinko Kikuchi as Jaeger co-pilot, Mako Mori.

And she’s not the only one who’ll be back.

‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ cinematographer Dan Mindel (via Omega Underground) shared a rather revealing image to his Instagram account… and it featured a partial cast list for the upcoming sci-fi sequel.

As you can see, the cast list highlights the return of ‘Pacific Rim’ lead, Rinko Kikuchi as her original character, Mako Mori. Also returning are both Charlie Day as Dr Newton Geiszler and Burn Gorman as Dr Hermann Gottlieb.

Quite a cool connection to the original, right?

So how does Mako Mori feature in the events of ‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ and will it be a major returning role? For now, we have no idea… and we’ll have to wait and see. But this isn’t the only new casting info we can gleam from the image.

Eagle-eyed readers will also have spotted Karl Urban’s name on the cast list.

Who’s he playing? At the moment, we have very little idea, except that his character has the surname ‘Quan’. Unfortunately, quite who he is remains a bit of mystery. But surely it won’t be long before we find out.

‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ stars Scott Eastwood and John Boyega alongside returning stars, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Burn Gorman.

Steven S. DeKnight will direct based on a screenplay he co-wrote with Emily Carmichael, T.S. Nowlin, and Kira Snyder.

‘Pacific Rim: Uprising’ heads to cinemas on 23 February 2018.
