RIP Wayne Rogers - MASH Actor Dies At 82

Wayne Rogers, star of TV’s ‘MASH,’ has passed away aged 82.

ET Online report that the screen veteran had been suffering complications from pneumonia, and was surrounded by family at the moment of his passing on New Year’s Eve.

Born in Alabama on 7 April 1933, Rogers served in the US Navy and earned a history degree from Princeton before pursuing an acting career. He worked extensively in television throughout the 1960s - plus some film work, including a supporting role in ‘Cool Hand Luke.’

But Rogers really made a name for himself as Captain “Trapper” John McIntyre, alongside Alan Alda’s Hawkeye, in the much-loved TV comedy series following the exploits of a medical unit in the Korean war.

‘MASH’ was based on Robert Altman’s 1970 film, in which Trapper was portrayed by Elliot Gould. McIntyre would play the role in 73 episodes between 1972 and 1975: the series would go on without him until 1983.

Rogers went on to further recurring TV roles on, amongst others, ‘House Calls’ and ‘Murder She Wrote,’ but retired from acting the early 2000s to concentrate on his work in investments and real estate. His skill in this field led to regular appearances on Fox News show ‘Cashin’ In.’

He was also awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2005.

Rogers is survived by his wife, two children and four grandchildren, to whom we extend our deepest sympathies.
